Week 18 - What A Marvelous Week

This week on the course has been in terms of production of the project, pretty great although I still have concerns whether the level of detail of my design will be fully reflected in the final product due to time contraints. This week was pretty much a go out and work on your project brief so game production and visual studies sessons were either brief or absent.

Actually comparing what I made this week on the characer I would like to argue there is a massive jump in the details that I have worked on such as hair clothing and the face. Either this is all a fluke or hopefully I am adapting to a Z brush workflow unknowingly. (Please be the latter).

Speaking of clothing in this weeks Game production we took a look a brief look at marvelous designer a clothign pysics simulator which to be honest is a very strange program to adapt to. Due to the products real time clothign pysics simulation trying to dress such a big guy like my character proved to be a hassle as clothing would clip against the contors of his silhoueete. On top this at the time of working with that program I only had the brief demonstraion and a youtube tutorial to go by so me mastering the program and producing amazing reasults in such time was very unlikely.

So to get around this I had to cheat. Well when I say cheat I mean pausing the simulation at the right time to get the basic gesture of the folds to form and export in Z brush for me to refine. This method has been quite useful so far however I really do wish to learn this software unfortunately I just dont have time with deadline looming over in just about a week.

Anyway this is a rather brief post as this week was mainly just pushing more towards the finishline of our projects. The action plan for next week is to firstly study retopologising techniqures which are fast and efficeint processes and to finally retopologise, bake and texture my character all for deadline.

Baking doesnt so much scare me anymore because well I've been there done that had the breakdown. Now its time for me to finally conquer the process (or at least feel like something is working right?)

Also note to self, learnt this from a 3rd year and has been invaluable in terms of scaling people

The Avg man height: 1.75m

Avg Woman: 1.50m

Idealised man :1.95m

Seriously this has helped so much with the exporting process from z brush. For some reason that program makes minaute people. Another action plan is to find out why.
